Rules
For Photographers
Through These Realities competition is open to professional and amateur photographers, using all forms of photography, from those that are part of the Boston area (Massachusetts) community and local residents. By registering and entering this competition you hereby accept the rules and conditions outlined below.
Anyone over 18 years of age can enter the competition with the exception of “Our Team” and their immediate families. Judges are not permitted to enter into the competition.
By entering the competition, you agree and acknowledge that the Through These Realities is permitted to receive your registration data.
Through These Realities may publish any material you submit, post, upload, email or otherwise transmit to it or to the website at its sole discretion and it shall be entitled to make additions or deletions to any such material prior to publication.
Any image submitted to the competition may be used by Through These Realities, and its media partners, for marketing and promotional purposes of the competition only. You hereby grant the Through These Realities a non-exclusive, irrevocable license in each Entry throughout the world in all media for any use in connection with the competition.

Conditions
Entry must be submitted online at the following website: https://throughtheserealities.submittable.com/submit following the on-screen instructions carefully. Prints are not accepted. Entries are limited to six images. Entries will not be accepted unless submitted via the official contest channel. Entries not submitted through the proper channel will be deleted. Submissions will not be accepted once the deadline lapses.
Submitted images must have been taken within the past six years.
You may submit up to six photos.
Files must meet the following specifications:
- sRGB or Adobe98 color space, 8-bit
- longest dimension must be 1200 pixels
- saved as a JPEG at a maximum quality
- no watermarks, borders, or signatures on your images
- Lastname_Firstname_Title_of_Image.JPG
- Example: Avedon_Richard_American_Hero.jpg
Winning Entrants must be able to provide a high-resolution digital file (minimum 2500px wide, 300dpi) with an unaltered metadata file. This file will be used to prove the ownership and date creation of the image. Entrants that do not fulfill these eligibility criteria will be deemed ineligible and disqualified without the right to appeal.
All entries must be the original work of the entrant and must not infringe the rights of any other party. The entrant must be the sole copyright owner of all photographs entered. The entrant must not have breached any laws when taking their photographs.
Winners' names and images will be published online.
Copyrights & Usage Rights
Copyright of the images will remain at all times with the photographer.
For awarded images, copyright holders grant the Through These Realities unlimited non-exclusive use of high-resolution images for activities in all media, including social media, online and print, in relation to the contest and all promotional activities without any remuneration being due.
Copyright holders of all awarded images grant Through These Realities non-exclusive use of low-resolution pictures on our website and social media channels, without any remuneration being due.
Images will be used strictly in connection to the awards and will not be used for any other marketing purposes other than to promote the contest and winners. Images will not be resold or used by any other third party. If there is a request for such, we will forward that request to the photographer via e-mail
To promote winners of the Through These Realities is granted the right to display images on social network websites (on our official profiles) including: Twitter and Instagram.
You agree to participate in related publicity and to the use of your name and images for the purposes of advertising, promotion and publicity in connection with the competition without additional compensation.
Through These Realities and its media partners assume no responsibility and are not liable for any image misuse by external third parties.
Right of Refusal
Through These Realities reserves the right to refuse inclusion of any photography of those who fail to deliver a signed copy of the agreement provided upon submission acceptance. Through These Realities reserves the right to disqualify false or plagiarized submissions or submissions suspected of being false or plagiarized and refuse inclusion of or to delete at any time any work that may violate any copyright, right of privacy, right of publicity, or other right of any person or subject to Through These Realities’ liability. All details relating to the publication of the Work will be at the sole discretion and control of Through These Realities. Winning entries do not guarantee acceptance into the exhibition.
Judging
Winning Entrants must be able to provide a high-resolution digital file (minimum 2500px wide, 300dpi) to be included in Through These Realities.
Entries will be judged by nominated judges. Images will be judged on artistic merit, originality, subject and style. The decision of Through These Realities is final. Through these realities reserves the right to disqualify any entry that is deemed inappropriate or does not conform to stated contest rules.
Entrants in violation to the above will be removed from the contest, stripped of any prize(s), and banned from entering future contests.
For Poets
Through These Realities competition is open to both established and unpublished poets who are either residents of, or part of, the Boston area (Massachusetts) community and local residents. By registering and entering this competition you hereby accept the rules and conditions outlined below.

All entries must be the original work of the entrant and must not infringe the rights of any other party. The entrant must be the creator and sole copyright owner of all poems entered.
By submitting their work, entrant warrants and represents that: (1) they/she/he is the sole creator of the work and the sole owner of the copyright in and to the work and has the power and authority to enter into this agreement and grant the rights granted hereunder; (2) the work does not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual property rights of any prior contract, assignment, pledge or lien, and the publication of the work as authorized hereunder will not subject Through These Realities to any claims of interference with contract or infringement of rights previously granted to another party or violate any non-compete, employment or other agreement to which the entrant may be subject. Entrant will indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Through These Realities and its shareholders, officers, employees, agents, licensees, and assigns from and against any and all awards, judgments, damages, liabilities, settlements, losses, costs and expenses (including attorneys’ fees) arising out of or incurred in connection with any claim, action, suit, or proceeding based on the breach or alleged breach of any of the foregoing representations and warranties.

Right of Refusal

Through These Realities reserves the right to disqualify false or plagiarized submissions or submissions suspected of being false or plagiarized and refuse inclusion of or to delete at any time any work that may violate any copyright, right of privacy, right of publicity, or other right of any person or subject to Through These Realities’ liability. All details relating to the publication of the Work will be at the sole discretion and control of Through These Realities. Winning entries do not guarantee acceptance into the exhibition or poetry reading.
Use Rights
By publishing an entry, Through These Realities expects First North American Serial Rights. Through These Realities will also archive all Work online at http://throughreality.com. All rights revert to the poet after their piece is first published online. Poets must agree to cite Through These Realities in all future publications of the work.
Copyright holders grant the Through These Realities unlimited non-exclusive use of all or part of their accepted poem for activities in all media, including social media, online and print, in relation to the contest and all promotional activities without any remuneration being due.
Copyright holders of all awarded images grant Through These Realities non-exclusive use of low-resolution pictures on our website

Prizes
The winner will receive $100. Cash prizes will be paid in USD. There are no alternatives available for prize winners. The prize must be collected by the winner and is non-transferable. The winner will be contacted via the email address provided during entry. If no response (including signed agreement) is received after 14 days, a new winner will be selected and the previous winner will forfeit all rights to the prize and as the selected poet.
Judging

Through These Realities reserves the right to disqualify any entry that is deemed inappropriate or does not conform to stated contest rules.
