With poetry and photography, through these realities challenges the narratives of mass media that invalidate the experiences of Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian & Pacific Islanders, Arabs, and people of color.

Our Artists

The Project

Six photographers of color have created a short series of images inspired by work from six poets of color. All photos will incorporate the surrounding city's figurative and literal visual elements related to the associated poetry—prompted by a James Baldwin quote—and the artists' experiences.

The Exhibition

Photographs and poetry were hosted by the BIPOC Space Initiative at the Armory in Somerville, MA, from June 12 through July 22, 2022. You may also visit our virtual gallery and read the poetry here.

Attend our upcoming exhibition reception at the Somerville Media Center, on Tuesday, May 2nd, from 6-8 PM. Learn More >>
